Read this, if Windows Update is not working or the Windows Update page itself is blank. I consider myself an "experienced" user, but couldn't fix this problem. No errors appeared until after the restart and I got the BSOD again. Windows Update Not Working Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it.
