You may have to try more than one step before you fix the problem, but the end result makes it well worth it. But don't ask me why it works!! If you have an optical mouse, check for the red light underneath it. this did not work for me.
If it is a generic one it may be the problem. Its not really a problem with external mouse, it happens with touch pad too. The best way to take care of this is to put an antivirus on your computer.
